The German painter a realist by instinct and contemplative by choice, Rudolf remains a modest being, behind his own aloof façade. It seems difficult to communicate with him, but we can nevertheless perceive that his sharp mind always cautiously analyzes every setting. Apparently not disturbed by the agitated flow of life surrounding him, Rudolf perceives existence with the eyes of an artist, certainly through those of a philosopher and perhaps of a poet as well. We can truly find an answer as revealed in the aesthetic of his oeuvre, one unspoiled by any fashionable development in the “modern” art scene. As he is accustomed to work on the sport (plein air) and as he is much concerned by the impact of light on a subject, Rudolf Schmidt could easily have been categorized as one of the last Post-Impressionists.
